Christmas altarpiece
For more than 60 years, Ovalle, Chile has celebrated Christmas Eve with an event as original as it is colorful: The Christmas altarpiece. This takes place in the city's Plaza de Armas and consists of the recreation of the birth of Jesus Christ.
The particularity is that in addition to the actors and actresses representing the biblical characters, the presentation has real animals, such as donkeys and horses, which give realism to this true "living nativity scene".
The participating people carry Chinese lanterns made of colored kite paper with a candle end in the center. The representative polyphonic Choir of the House of Culture sang Christmas carols and the star announcers of those times read the story parsimoniously.
